Author Spotlight – Welcome, Laura Thomas

In an idyllic village nestled in the English countryside, photographer Georgia Brooks is desperate to begin a new chapter in her life. Bramble Cottage was supposed to give her space to heal and hope again after suffering betrayal and rejection by the only man she ever loved. This was Georgia’s chance to rekindle her faith and reconnect with her sisters in a place that held sweet childhood memories—not expose herself to the ugly underbelly of the art world and put her family in danger.
Local pediatric surgeon, Doctor William Hughes, is captivated by the Canadian beauty with a camera over one shoulder and the weight of the world on the other. After suffering his own tragic loss and balancing a demanding career with raising a toddler, he recognizes the heaviness of grief . . . and the burden of guilt.
When Georgia discovers she could be in possession of incriminating evidence to frame a criminal ring, she needs to trust someone. She chooses Will. Postcards, photographs,
paintings—something about Bramble Cottage is worth killing for. Can Georgia uncover the truth in time?

Tell us three things we’d find if we looked under your heroine’s bed? How about the hero’s?

If we looked under Georgia’s bed, we would find a suitcase storing her winter clothes (closet space is minimal in a sweet English cottage), a small leather box filled with special photographs of her family, her life in Canada, and her own first attempts at photography, and then possibly a stray chocolate bar wrapper from midnight munchies!

If we looked under Will’s bed, we would find a red building block belonging to his son, Jack, along with a stack of medical journals for nights when he can’t sleep, and a pair of expensive running shoes.

What is the theme of this book? If it’s part of a series, how does this book fit into the series?

Captured in Frame is book 1 in the Bite of Betrayal series, published by Mountain Brook Ink. Book 2 is coming June 2025! The overarching theme for Captured in Frame is one of forgiveness and the beauty of second chances, so my desire would be for the reader to take away this truth: with God, there is always hope and you are always loved.

Why do you write this genre?

I write Christian romantic suspense because it’s a genre I thoroughly enjoy reading, and also because it’s fun and challenging to write! The triple whammy of an engaging love story, page-turning chills, and relatable faith struggles… what’s not to love?

What inspired this story?

I’m originally from England, so the inspiration for Captured in Frame came while I was visiting one of my sisters in her charming little English village in the countryside. One dark, rainy evening I saw (in the figment of my overactive imagination) a huge, drenched, grizzly man lit up by a flash of lightening outside my sister’s French doors. Suddenly, I had a character who would invade the serenity of this quaint country village in my future novel!

Do you write any other genres?

This is my sixth published Christian romantic suspense book (including two Christmas novellas), but I also have a Christian teen fiction trilogy and middle grade short novel published, and I write several types of non-fiction.

Any tips to share with fellow authors/aspiring authors?

I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it: don’t put yourself into a box as a writer. In the beginning, I desperately wanted to be a picture book author… actually, it’s still a dream of mine! However, once I realized I was a writer—not just for one specific genre with one specific endgame in mind—but a writer of words, then I allowed my work to take shape in a variety of formats. I would encourage you to step through doors that open, even if they are shaped differently than you had originally envisioned. Think outside the box. Try different writing styles. Read widely. Most importantly—keep writing!
