There’s something magical about Christmas … but in Charleston,
South Carolina, the holiday is extra-special. This collection of short stories
combines the festive joy of the holiday with the beauty of the Holy City …
Charleston.
Presented by authors from the South Carolina Lowcountry chapter of
American Christian Fiction Writers. The proceeds from this Christmas Anthology
from the LowCountry ACFW chapter of Charleston, South Carolina go to RISE,
an organization that helps homeless men rise above their circumstances by not
only giving them shelter, but also by offering training and other avenues of getting on their feet.
A South of Broad Christmas
A member of Charleston’s
upper-crust meets a money-grubbing tour guide when he sneaks his tour
group into her backyard—without her permission. Then, life keeps throwing
them together—at Christmas. It’s almost as if the good Lord knows what he’s
doing.
Welcome, Christina!
Tell us three things we’d find if we looked under your heroine’s bed? How about the hero’s?
The heroine would have absolutely nothing under her bed because the bed itself is an
antique four-poster sitting on Aubusson carpet. She also has a cleaning lady come in
weekly so the house is spotless. The hero, on the other hand, lives in an apartment and
shoves boxes of history books, guidebooks for Charleston, and brochures for his tour guide
business under the bed and in every corner.
What is the theme of this book?
The theme of the novella is we all need God—regardless of income level, family structure,
or where you’re from.
Why do you write this genre?
I write in contemporary romance because I want to inspire readers where we/they are. I
love historical and other genres, but I also work a full-time non-writing job and don’t have
time to do the research needed to do history justice.
What inspired this story?
This story was inspired by a charity event my husband and I attended south of Broad street in Charleston, and I loved the house! Also, Charleston itself inspires me with its rich history and amazing architecture.
Any tips to share with fellow authors/aspiring authors?
My tip is to write because you love it. You can’t count on getting published traditionally
and, even if you do get that contract, you never know what the future holds—my publisher
just went out of business. While I was devastated at first, I keep writing because I can’t
stop. Writing brings me that much joy.
