Don’t call it a resolution

I stopped making New Year’s resolutions a few years ago. Instead, I stopped settling for excuses and (amazingly) found I achieved my goals.

I have big goals for 2018. I have a few stories on submission to publishers at the moment. I have a series I’m passionate about on submission. If this series is passed by the publisher I’m targeting, I will be self-publishing at the end of the year.

The first half of 2018 will be a waiting game. As those novels are tied up, however, I will be working on more.

My goal is to write two novels in a planned trilogy (first is on submission). Write a follow-up to another novel on submission, either a full-length novel or a novella, not sure yet. Write another novella for Sariah Wilson’s Kindle World (a companion to my current story). And ideally, come up with even more stories.

I’ve been very impressed by the yearly word counts my fellow romance authors posted for 2017. I’ve never tracked my word counts (beyond participating in NaNoWriMo or Camp NaNoWriMo) but I started on January 1st. I’ll post updates each quarter on how I’m progressing. I’m a plotter, I’m a planner, so this is really quite thrilling for me to set out another system to monitor productivity.

Cheers to making 2018 a great year!

Local Author Fair 2018

On Saturday, January 13th, the Aspen Drive Library held the annual local author fair. Thanks to the amazing staff this year’s event was bigger and better than ever! We had a wonderful turn-out and I had a romance author buddy to share a table with this year, the fabulous romantic suspense author C.J. Warrant. Seated kitty-corner from our table was author Clara Kensie with her RITA! (swoon!).

I had a great time. Meeting readers and chatting with other authors is how I’d love to spend every day. I have a soft spot in my heart for libraries and really can’t say enough good things about the staff of the Cook Memorial Library (both branches).

Here’s a picture of our table this year. If you didn’t make it out, I hope you’ll come next year!

The real-life inspiration for Royal Collection

painter-1246619_1920

I studied art history in college and grad school. Art history is a passion of mine, which shouldn’t be a surprise if you read my books. I can’t help but sneak in careers and storylines around works of art. In Royal Collection, my Kindle World novella, a rediscovered Titian causes problems for the hero and heroine.

The premise, that a work by Titian was sold to cover a debt from King Charles I, is based in truth. Charles amassed an amazing collection of art that was sold off after the republicans overthrew him. Art was scattered all over and this year a rather unique exhibition united as many of the paintings as possible. (Wish I could go!!!)

An ‘impossible dream’: Charles I’s art collection to be brought back to UK

In recent years, there have been some significant works of art coming out of the shadows. I was very inspired by the Leonardo da Vinci painting, Salvator Mundi, that recently sold and smashed all sorts of records (article about the painting, click here). As if the works of art themselves aren’t enough to capture the imagination, finding treasure when you least expect is inspiring.
