My favorite scenes in Her Homegrown Christmas Wish *semi-spoiler if you haven’t read it yet* involve the nativity play.

Olivia, Hannah’s daughter, stars in the Sunday School production as Mary, directed by Hannah and Jake Grant.

I often fictionalize moments from my life in my stories. When I started writing the Home to Harmony books, I knew each story took place in a different season. The last book had to be Christmas so I could include a nativity play.

I loved watching my kids perform at our church. While the play-which served as the sermon for the service during the second Sunday in December, third in Advent-changed every year from the traditional story to more contemporary re-telling, it was always very sweet.

The pre-school kids dressed as barn yard animals (thanks to clever hats) and sang the same songs every year. I catch myself singing Baby Jesus, We Love You throughout the season.
