Author interview: repost!

Sharing my Author Interview with Anaiah Press from Christmas in July

1. What’s your favorite part of being an author?
My favorite part of being an author is discovering the story. I usually start with an idea (can be a theme, a piece of dialogue, a conflict, anything) and plot out the book scene by scene. I write a quick first draft and in the edits, I discover the heart of the novel. The a-ha moment is always a thrill and often catches me off-guard. Sometimes, it’s theme. The Home to Harmony series is all about second chances, and this book was the ultimate tale of forgiveness and hope.

2. What was your favorite scene in Her Homegrown Christmas Wish?
I loved writing the Christmas shopping scene. Daniel asks Hannah to join him on a visit to the town’s superstore for help picking a gift for their daughter. It’s a moment to really show the thaw between them and how good they are together. (Also, sidenote for anyone looking for a GREAT gift for kids, check out blanket fort kits that are poles and connectors. My kids played with their set for nearly a decade.)

3. Do you have any fun Christmas traditions?
Our Christmas traditions are constantly adapting as my kids grow, and I think that’s what makes every year fun and memorable. I always try to visit a light display. When my kids were little, we visited drive thru displays. Now, we can buy tickets to the botanic garden and stroll the grounds. I always say the important part is the time together.
